Gearbox replacement from £110 — keep your existing multi-point strip. The gearbox (or 'centre case') is the engine of your uPVC door. When the handle feels loose, the lock won't engage, or you can hear a 'spinning' sound when you lift the handle — it's the gearbox, not the whole strip. Replacing just the gearbox is a fraction of the cost of a full strip replacement.

Standard gearboxes from £110. Heavy-duty gearboxes (stronger internal cam and hardened parts) from £150. Anti-lift and high-security gearboxes from £175. If your existing strip is also worn, we can quote for a full replacement in the same visit. No VAT and no call-out fee — the price you see is the price you pay. Parts and labour are included unless otherwise stated.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know it's the gearbox and not the whole lock?
If the handle spins or feels floppy, the gearbox is the most likely culprit. If the hooks don't move at all even with a working handle, it could be either.

Can you replace a gearbox without removing the door?
Yes in most cases — we can usually access it through the door edge with the door in situ.

How long does a gearbox last?
Typically 8–15 years depending on use. Slamming doors and lifting the handle to lock without first turning the key shortens life significantly.
