Key snapped off in the lock? Extraction from £65 — usually same day. Old, worn or thin keys can snap off mid-turn, leaving the broken end jammed in the cylinder. The good news: in most cases we can extract the broken piece without damaging the lock itself, then cut you a fresh replacement key on the spot.

Standard extraction from £65. Extraction plus a fresh replacement key cut on-site from £85. Complex extractions (where the key has broken deep inside, or the cylinder has been damaged in the process) from £95. We'll always quote before starting if it's likely to fall into the complex category. No VAT and no call-out fee — the price you see is the price you pay. Parts and labour are included unless otherwise stated.

Frequently asked questions

Can the broken piece always be extracted?
In around 90% of cases, yes — non-destructively. The other 10% (where the cylinder is also damaged, or the break is jammed against an internal pin) require cylinder replacement, which we can do in the same visit.

Why do keys break?
Usually one of three reasons: the key is old and metal-fatigued, the lock is stiff or worn and forces the key past its strength, or excessive force is used (turning while lifting a uPVC handle, for example).

Will I need a new lock?
Not usually. The lock itself is rarely damaged by the break — only the key. We extract, test, and cut you a new key, and you're back in business.

How long does extraction take?
Most extractions take 10–20 minutes. Cutting a replacement key on-site adds another 5–10 minutes.
